As the new year gets underway and activities continue, West Central is currently in Phase 2, Plan A, according to Activities Director Andrea Johnson.

Phase 2, Plan A means there is still limited attendance for activities and face masks are required. Four event vouchers are given to each participant which includes athlete, coach and managers. With Phase 2, Plan A, high school students and staff can get into the activities without a voucher by having a valid school ID and students K-8 must have a voucher. In addition to the voucher, students K-8 must sit with a parent/guardian.

When determining if West Central activities will be in Plan A or Plan B of Phase 2, Johnson indicated, “There are various factors that come into consideration when determine whether we are in Plan A or Plan B. Obviously, the number of cases in the community, schools, and surrounding area are large factors, as are the day of the event, the distance between competing schools, and who the competing school(s) are.” She continued, “Athletes and fans are aware that we are currently in Phase 2-Plan A.  If there is a change to that, we will let them know as soon as possible.”

Johnson believes that Phase 2 has been going very well. She stated, “I believe the athletes, students, and community understand that we are simply doing everything we possibly can to ensure that these kids are in school and participating in activities.” Johnson continued, “While these activities may look very different than they have in the past, at least they still get to participate.”

Although she cannot speculate to when, Johnson does believe there will come a time when West Central will get to move back to Phase 1 which allows for open attendance. Until then, Johnson stated that West Central will continue to do the best they can with what they have to work with.

Johnson said, “This is a very different time. I appreciate the continued patience and understanding as we navigate uncharted territory.”
