Calvin Wayne Krueger, son of August and Betty (Bentz) Krueger, was born June 30, 1949, in Gregory. He grew up and received his education in Fairfax. He then attended the University of South Dakota and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

On June 26, 1971, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Stahlecker in Spencer, Neb.

Cal then began working for Gamble’s Hardware Store and worked in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois before settling in Sioux Falls in 1978. He then began his 25-year career with Ideal Yardware. Cal then worked with his brother at Harlan’s Bike & Tour until his retirement.

Cal loved his family and showed this in countless ways. He was in love with his wife for 50 years, and made sure to spend time with all of his family and extended family. His wife, Cindy, preceded him in death on November 11, 2020.

Cal loved the outdoors. He grew up hunting and fishing and continued with those hobbies into his adult life. Some of his favorite times were camping on the river with his young family and camping all over the country with the love of his life in retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending time traveling to South Carolina to see his sister, traveling to Arizona to camp with his brother, camping at his son’s house in Ohio, and exploring all of the places in between. At home, he was often outside on his dec, or tending a beautiful garden with his wife.

You could also find Cal outdoors on a bicycle  He rode countless miles. He did frequent bike tours including bike rides across Iowa and South Dakota. He enjoyed the Mickelson Trail Ride in the Black Hills and brought his bike with him when he traveled and rode on trails and roads all over the country.

Cal was a talented woodworker and made countless pieces for his family and friends. He put his heart into each piece and said that he would never sell his work — he made each piece out of love and care for each person. He could build or fix almost anything.

Cal had many other hobbies over the years. He shot archery for many years and was the State Champion on more than one occasion. He was an avid card player and loved nothing more than a great game of cribbage, poker or any card game in competition with friends or family. He had fun country dancing with his wife for several years. He was also always excited to watch his grandkid’s events and was frequently found at their soccer, basketball and football games, concerts, plays and band competitions.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Charles W. Krueger, Whitehouse, Ohio, Heidi Lynn (Lee) Loof, Hartford; mother-in-law, Delores Stahlecker of Stuart, Neb., 10 grandchildren, August Meyer, Leonard “Leo” Meyer, Kaylee Loof, Adelynn Loof, Stone Calvin Loof, C.
