With temperatures beginning to warm up, camping season is closer than you think. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) allows reservations at their State Parks 90 days in advance.
February 20 marked the first day to make campsite and cabin reservations for free fishing weekend, beginning May 21. For those campers that kick off their camping season with Memorial Day, you will want to book Saturday, February 27 for a Friday arrival of Memorial Weekend.
“The sooner you can plan your camping trip, the better,” State Parks Director Scott Simpson said in a recent press release by SDGFP. “Campsites at popular parks go quickly.”
SDGFP encourages campers to venture out to new parks or camp during the week to avoid peak demand. Reservations can be made 24 hours a day, both online and by phone.
Popular reservation dates to mark on the calendar: Memorial Day – reserve Feb. 27; Father’s Day – reserve March 30; Fourth of July – reserve April 3; Labor Day – reserve June 5.
