The City of Crooks Housing and Redevelopment Commission (HRC) met on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. According to Mayor F. Butch Oseby, the main purpose of the meeting was to have presentations done by two developers to see who would be the best fit to work with the city.

The City of Crooks HRC continues to develop areas of the city with new homes. The developer’s presentations were to indicate what the development would look like and how they would partner with the city, Mayor Oseby explained.

The two developers that presented were Van Buskirk Companies of Sioux Falls and HME Management from Brookings.

Mayor Oseby explained there is lot of growth going on in Crooks with the new school, funeral home and industrial park next spring. He indicated the city wants to make sure that the new housing development includes homes for anyone; starter homes, multi-family homes and higher end homes. “We definitely want to get some of that first time homeowner’s in our area, especially with the new school going up,” Mayor Oseby said.

Mayor Oseby indicated the city has good residential property sales and now wants to compliment that with more commercial property sales. “We are on a lot of people’s radars now that we have the new school going up and we are always looking for businesses to come to town,” he continued.

The City of Crooks should make a decision within the next few weeks as to which developer they will go with for their upcoming developments.
