Dan was born in Sioux Falls on February 24, 1951, to Gene “Bubs” and Aileen Baldwin, joining his sister Pat into the family. He spent all of his school years and graduated from high school in Chester. After graduation, Dan worked for a local business and played in bands such as “Yesterday’s Wine”. In the mid-seventies Dan purchased the little bar on Brandt Lake. He expanded the business and successfully built the Shipwreck Steakhouse. Dan also worked in the upholstery shop with his dad and kept up with this business for many years. Dan did all of this while keeping up with his music career. In later years, he would be in a band called “Baldwin and Beck”. After selling the Shipwreck, Dan purchased the Happy Hour Bar. After losing his eyesight due to diabetes, Dan sold the Happy Hour and kept up the upholstery business, doing beautiful work. He was always busy building something or doing remodeling work.

In 2001, Dan married the love of his life, Rhonda “Tuti” Olson. They made their home near Buffalo Trading Post. Dan had many other loves in his life. Being a husband, stepfather and grandfather brought much joy to him. Music was an everyday love of his and he was talented with the guitar, harmonica and singing. Dan was one big funny bone. He rarely complained, accepting his blindness and saying “it is what it is”. He was always positive and had a smile on his face, a joke or a funny comment. Everyone loved him. His many friends and family know him as the guy with the big golden heart.

Thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Tuti; stepchildren Paul Wieneke and April Buck of Neligh, Neb., and their families; and sister Pat Jarman of Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family and will be forwarded to Dan’s favorite charities.
