Salem 

Lavon, daughter of Peter and Ida (Schimmel) Jacobsen, was born July 16, 1929, in Spencer. She grew up on a farm near Spencer and Salem. 

On Nov. 27, 1947, she married Vern Healy at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Montrose. Her husband, Vern, passed away June 12, 1975. She continued living in Montrose. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, St. Patrick’s Altar Society and American Legion Auxiliary of Montrose. She worked at the Montrose School lunchroom for three years and she also did house cleaning for many folks and for Father Majusiak. She lived in Montrose for 34 years.

On July 31, 1981, she married Herman Gstohl and moved to Salem. There she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem, St. Mary’s Altar Society, St. Mary’s Christian Mothers, birthday club and Red Hatters Society. Her husband, Herman, passed away Dec. 28, 1999.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Rita Jones of Sioux Falls and Ida (Paul) Huls of Hartford, and a son, Patrick (Dotty) Healy of Overland Park, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Troy (Marta) Huls, Jed (Korrine) Jones, Kenny (Marie) Healy, Michael (Kelsey) Healy, Nicole (Jared) Hanisch, Kristy (Joel) Hazel, Tasha (Robert) O’Meara and Stacy Jones; 14 great-grandchildren, Zachary Hazel, Caden Hanisch, Austin Dagley, Orran O’Meara, Ian Jones, Tiffany Hanisch, Kylie (Dylan) Hagerty, Brittany Hazel, Emilee Jones, Makaylah O’Meara, Anaya Jones, Abigail Hanisch, Cecelia Healy and Margaret Healy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, a brother, Harold, a sister Irma, son-in-law, Jerry Jones, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.  

A private family funeral mass was held on Monday, May 11. Burial was at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Montrose.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Ida Huls, P.O. Box 704, Hartford, SD 57033.
