The West Central Marching Trojans marched the field again for another competition at the Dutchmen Field Championship (DFC) in Orange City, Iowa, on Saturday, October 9.
This performance for the Marching Trojans had them in Class 3A, competing against Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sergeant Bluff-Lutton, Bishop Heelan, Spirit Lake, LeMars, Sioux Center and Sheldon, according to Director of Bands Danny Eye. They continued with their performance of “Dreamcatcher” by Pixel for their field competition.
The DFC awarded trophies for first through eighth place along with Best Hornline, Best Drumline, Best Color Guard, Best Field Conductor and Triple S Award, D. Eye explained. The West Central Marching Trojans went home with a third place finish in their Class 3A competition and received the Best Field Conductor Award.
When asked how he felt the performance went, D. Eye said, “The students played REALLY well scoring a 72.65. That is over 10 points higher than the previous weekend in Sioux Falls.”
D. Eye said, “Our visual performance scores ranked us sixth out of all 25 competing bands. That is our technique in our marching style. Something that we worked really hard on all week.”
The highlight of the day, D. Eye explained, was getting to experience the fireworks show as a group at the end of the night to finish off their season.
The Marching Trojans will have their indoor show on November 6 in the high school colosseum. According to D. Eye, there will be a meal in the high school commons prior to the concert and a silent auction will also be available. D. Eye concluded, “It’s our biggest concert of the year!”
