Mildred Ann Mullett was born on November 11, 1931, in Althol, SD, to Harry and Dollie (Minnick) Mullett. She was raised on a farm near Redfield. She received her education in Redfield graduating from Redfield High School.
Mildred was united in marriage with Lloyd Hill in 1949. From this union she was blessed with the birth of one son, Randall, and a daughter Cynthia “Cindy” while living in Huron.
Mildred moved to Sioux Falls in 1954 and met Olynn “Ken” Hughes. Mildred and Ken were united in marriage on December 26, 1958, in Humboldt. They lived in Sioux Falls and then made their home in Brandon in 1966. Mildred and Ken were blessed with the births of three children, Jeff, Ken “Louie” and Florence “Flo”. Ken passed away on January 25, 2005.
Mildred worked at many businesses in Sioux Falls until moving to New Mexico in 1981 where she and Ken began working as an apartment manager which led them to Las Vegas in 1990. They then returned to Sioux Falls in 1999 upon retirement to be closer to family. Mildred considered her “Main Job” was as a mother, not only to her children but always had an open door and warm welcome to all of their friends.
Mildred was a strong compassionate woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed socializing with friends and pressing her luck at the casino. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children Randall Hill and his wife, Sharol of Crooks, Kenneth “Louie” Hughes of Sioux Falls and Flo Bowden and her partner Dennis Binkerd of Crooks; five grandchildren Travis (Lacey) Hughes, Corey Hockett, Jamie (Brent) Van Regenmorter, Kenzie (Josh) Gascoigne and Jenay (Justin) Fodness; seven great-grandchildren Taylor, Landon, Cassidy, Sidney, Rylee, Blake and Jada; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Dollie Mullett; her husband Olynn “Ken” Hughes; one son Jeff Hughes; daughter Cindy Hockett; an infant daughter; and three sisters Mary Knispel, Hazel Vanderbilt and Mabel Burnham.
A Celebration of Life will be from 2-5 pm on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the VFW in Renner (47410 258th St. Renner, SD).
