Almost 18 years ago on September 1, Abigail “Abby” Mitchell was born in Edina, Minnesota. At about six months old Abby moved to Hartford, South Dakota, due to a job for her father. Hartford was where her mother grew up, so it was perfect for her, explained Abby.
Abby will be heading into her Senior year this fall at West Central High School and has been in various school activities such as Quiz Bowl, National Honor Society, band and drama.
After graduating high school, Abby plans to attend Augustana University in Sioux Falls to become a fiction author, which has always been her dream. She would like to write science fiction and fantasy stories, as those are her favorite genres to read and write, but she’s open to expanding her boundaries to write in other genres.
Abby is a fun-spirited girl with an interesting background. Abby and her family, which she is close with, like to take vacations. Soon her family and her are going on a vacation to Ireland and Scotland, as that’s where part of her ancestry is from. Abby explained she actually has a dream to visit a place from where each of her ancestors were from so she can get to know her heritage. One of her dream places to visit is Spain during the Festival of Seville which takes place two weeks after Easter. Abby’s favorite food is churros and one of her new favorite foods that she didn’t think she’d like is Alligator. She recently tried it on a family trip, and to her surprise, liked it a lot. Abby explained one weird thing about her is that one time she accidentally punched herself in the face when opening her backpack and her zipper got stuck.
Abby accepted the internship for the Minnehaha Messenger to further her writing experiences. As stated before, she would like to become a fiction author, and she believes that with this job it will help enhance her writing abilities. Abby enjoys taking pictures and writing stories. She’s learned how to use a camera better which she thinks is pretty neat as she didn’t know how to do that before. She also likes the people aspect of the job and expanding her social abilities.
