The Tri-Valley Mustang Marching Band kicked off their season by marching in the Parker Pheasant Marching Band Festival on Friday, September 17, under the direction of Mr. Michael Hoffman.
This year, the Mustang Marching Band has 41 members and performed “Grease” for the parade music at the festival.
According to Hoffman, each class awards first, second and third place along with caption awards for Best Winds, Best Percussion, Best Colorguard and Best Drum Majors.
The Mustang’s marched away with first place overall in Class A. In addition, the Mustang’s also received the Best Winds, Best Percussion and Best Colorguard for Class A at the festival.
“I thought this was a great first showing for the season!” Hoffman said. He continued, “I could tell there was some nervousness coming from the band as we were lining up on Main Street, but once we stepped off into the judging area, the band was focused and we were able to showcase the work we had put in rehearsals the last few weeks. Being awarded first along with all the caption awards was a confidence booster going into the next competitions.”
Hoffman indicated the band received some great comments from their judge’s tapes. He further explained this week the Mustangs have added a few smaller visual things that will enhance their musical impacts at the end of their routine. Hoffman added, “We are also working on refining some small details in our music; overall just making sure we are playing together as an ensemble in regards to our balance and blend across the different sections as well as keeping our tempos locked in.”
When asked what the highlight was for the band’s performance, Hoffman said, “I think I can say for the band that the highlight was being awarded first place. It’s always great to see your hard work recognized and they definitely deserved it on Friday.”
