This year, the National Honor Society that took place on April 26 looked a little different for the West Central High School due to COVID-19, according to teacher JoAnne Bohl.
In previous years, the students would get to enjoy a reception as they were being inducted into the National Honor Society but with COVID-19 restrictions, the school chose to eliminate that portion this year for safety measures.
According to Bohl, Jesse Fonkert from Lincoln and Minnehaha County Economic Development Associations was the featured speaker at the ceremony. He delivered a message reinforcing the pillars of National Honor Society; academics, leadership, character and service.
Despite the students not getting their normal reception, the students did not go home empty handed. Bohl explained the students received a gift bag that included a cupcake, bottle of water, a National Honor Society pen and a window decal commemorating this as this is the 100-year anniversary of the National Honor Society.
