Sioux Falls
Ron was the son of Leroy and Louis Jacobson. He was born Nov 28, 1941, in Sioux Falls. He graduated from Washington High School.
He was united in marriage December 7, 1963, to Gloria. They made their home in Hartford for several years and in Sioux Falls. He started his career farming with his dad. He then worked at Flasco, Apple Lines, Myrl and Roy Paving and also an owner operator for Midwest Coast.
Ron was very active in 4H in his younger years. He also enjoyed attending threshing bees and airplane shows. Other passions were tractors (Allis Chalmers), fishing and traveling. A couple of his favorite TV shows were Gunsmoke and Andy Griffith. He was also a huge dog lover.
Although he only had one child, he was considered a “Dad” to many. He always put others first and worried about himself last. He had several illnesses and in a lot of pain but you would never hear him complain about it. He has put in millions of miles up and down the long lonesome highways. He was even awarded as a “Highway Angel” when he helped a family out of a burning camper alongside the highway. He was a family man and spent countless hours visiting with them. You could tell him anything and he always had wise advice to give and was an attentive listener. He took countless family vacations. His favorite place to take them was to the West coast. He surprised Gloria to a trip to Hawaii for their 20th wedding anniversary which was a highlight of his life.
Ron worshiped his grandson, Jacob, and taught him so many fundamentals of life. They were known as “Big Jake” and “Little Jake”.
I think if he could have told his friends and family one last thing before he passed, it would be “Keep on Truckin’ and make sure you keep it between the white lines!” 10-4 good buddy – we gone-bye bye!
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Gloria Jacobson; daughter, Lynette Schroeder; and grandson Jacob Schroeder, all of Sioux Falls; his brother Ray (Sandy) Jacobson, Watson, Minn.; sister, Carol Brower, Humboldt; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Dave, and sister Cheryl.
A funeral service was held at Miller Westside Funeral Chapel on September 13.
Arrangements provided by Miller Funeral Home.
