After many social occasions were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, the Buffalo Ridge Brewing (BRB) decided to bring back a fan favorite after many requests… Trivia Night.
According to BRB owner Callie Tuschen, in the past BRB hosted Trivia Night about once a quarter by partnering with Siouxland Libraries which had to come to a halt when the pandemic hit in 2020.
“We’ve had people ask about trivia since we used to offer it and since people really want social opportunities during these cold winter months, we thought it would be a great time to bring it back,” Tuschen said.
Tuschen went on to explain that last fall they were approached by Pub Trivia Nerds to provide their services for free as a COVID relief special which is a small business out of Minneapolis that writes all of the questions and provides BRB with the materials. “It’s really a great opportunity that we could hardly pass up,” said Tuschen.
BRB will be running the trivia event as a six-week league on Wednesday nights from 7-9 pm from January 12 through February 16 to see how many people like it. If the response is a positive one, BRB will possibly bring the trivia back as a weekly event. Teams up to six people are welcome to compete each week and teams will be provided scorecards and pencils in order to write down their answers with points being tallied at the end of each series of questions, according to Tuschen.
“This is old school style for now so no TV or electronics,” Tuschen explained. “We have a host that will present the questions and teams will get about 45 seconds to answer before moving on to the next question. There are 63 questions divided into 7 rounds.”
According to Tuschen, there will be weekly gift card prizes offered, depending on how many groups are in attendance, up to third place. Teams will also be accumulating points over the six weeks, so, Tuschen explained, it’s important that you return weekly! “There will be a grand prize gift card for the team with the most overall points awarded on our last trivia on February 16.”
When asked what she is most excited for with this event, Tuschen said, “January and February are slow moths for us because people do dry January and we are working off New Year’s resolution goals.” She continued, “So, this is a great opportunity to provide community gathering in our space. The winter months statistically are really hard on people emotionally and we love bringing people together to have fun and be social. We hope that our guests love and appreciate the event so we can keep doing it.”
