Sioux Falls

Alice Luella Karsten, daughter of August and Josephine (Johnson) Karsten, was born on January 8, 1920, in Mott, N.D. They lived in several places and relocated to Beaver Creek, Minn., where Luella graduated high school. She attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls.

Luella was united in marriage with Kenneth H. Pedersen on August 2, 1945, in Alexandria, Va. They relocated to Sioux Falls after Kenneth was honorably discharged. Luella worked for Sioux Falls Book and Stationery and worked at John Morrell and Company from 1947 to 1975. They relocated to Arizona where Luella worked for Smith Plumbing. She retired in 1985 and they returned to Sioux Falls.

Luella enjoyed playing cards, reading, and working on crossword puzzles. She was a member of Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church where she participated in weekly Bible studies.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Sharon Rehfeldt, Humboldt; granddaughters, Cindy Pirrung (Rick Starnes), Sioux Falls and Diane (Troy) Fodness, Topeka, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Shawn (Jim) Barnett, Captain Nicholas (Stephanie) and Andrew (Jenna) Fodness; great-great-grandchildren, Mary, Sarah, and Sam Barnett, Sophie and Jameson Fodness; and many other relatives and friends.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, sisters, Mildred Moen, Margaret Staeffler, brothers Ernest Karsten, Robert Karsten, brothers-in-law, Iner Moen, Leonard Staeffler, and sister-in-law, Phyliss Karsten.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 12 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 South Main Avenue. Interment to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery.
