As the City of Crooks continues to grow, so does the plan for the Heritage Pond Development, according to Mike Harstad, Chairman of the Crooks Housing and Redevelopment Commission (CHRC).
The Heritage Pond Development, located on the south edge of Crooks across the street from the community center and over by where the new school will be located, is currently in phase one. The development has approximately 15 lots available with Van Buskirk as the contractor. Harstad explained once completed, the entire development will have a total of approximately 70 lots.
The feature that will be special to this development will be the fishing pond. Harstad explained the pond will be on about five to seven acres and the community members will be able to fish in the pond. The CHRC has been working closely with the Game Fish and Parks pertaining to this feature.
“We’re working with Game, Fish and Parks for the design and structure of the pond itself and after that they are going to stock it for us. Each year they will continue to restock the pond for us,” Harstad said. He continued, “They (Game, Fish and Parks) offer this as a service. They are always looking for family recreation opportunities, it’s something the Game, Fish and Parks is always looking to help with and they don’t always have the opportunity to do it.”
According to Harstad, the ground work will begin in June for the Heritage Pond Development in hopes to have lots ready for sale in August or September. Harstad also explained they are hoping to head straight to phase two of the Heritage Pond Development immediately in the spring.
As for the pond, that will need to wait for the fall to begin. “The pond will go in the fall of this year. Part of where the pond will be going is on the land that currently has crops on it, so the pond will start this fall,” Harstad confirmed.
Harstad concluded, “We have our first development, the Sunset addition, which was about a 55-lot development and we have about 10 lots left. We are hoping to have that sold out this summer and after that we hope to focus our attention on the Heritage addition.”
