Donald H. Maass, age 82, longtime resident of Humboldt/Hartford SD area, passed away October 29, 2022, at Wheatlands Healthcare Center, Kingman, KS. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, November 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 209 W 2nd Ave., Humboldt, with burial at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, November 4, at Miller Funeral Home-Hartford Chapel, 600 S. Western Ave., Hartford.
Donald Herman Maass, son of Henry and Emma (Harms), was born December 24, 1939 in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Humboldt where he attended school.
He worked on the farm for several years, Sioux Falls Parks Department and then worked at Dual Manufacturing for several years. He transitioned to Sunderman’s for a couple years before working for Neuberger’s Poultry Processing in 1982 until retiring in 2014.
In 2014, Donald moved to Cheney, KS to live with his brother, Wayne. Three years later in 2017, he entered Wheatlands Healthcare Center in Kingman, KS.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Thrivant and a longtime member of 4-H. He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked hunting and fishing. He enjoyed going to movies. He really enjoyed dancing at family celebrations and any event that had a chance to dance. Grateful for having shared his life are his sibling, Caroline (Keith) Halverson, Sioux Falls, Wayne (Ronda) Maass, Cheney, KS, Lynn (Brenda) Maass, Big Stone City and many nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Betty Jean and Linda Henrietta; two adult sisters, Diana Grocott and Dorothy Daugaard; six nephews and one niece.
