Elaine Ann Emery was born January 1, 1939, in Colton, the daughter of Wayne and Kathryn (Skrovig) Emery. She grew up in Colton and graduated from Colton High School in 1957. After her mother’s death in May of 1957, Elaine remained at home to care for her younger brother Bobby.
Elaine met Marvin Wieman in 1955 and they married on June 8, 1958. They lived in Brookings while Marv attended SDSU. During this time, Elaine worked at Geyerman’s Clothing Store in Brookings. After graduation, Marv and Elaine moved to Minneapolis. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1962 to start and raise their family. They moved to Crooks in 1968 where they made their home for 53 years.
Elaine taught Sunday School and Bible School at West Nidaros, was a volunteer aide at Tri-Valley Schools, served on the Red Cross Board in Sioux Falls, and was a volunteer in the cardiac unit at Sioux Valley (Sanford) Hospital for many years. She was actively involved at West Nidaros since 1966. However, the most important and most cherished role was that of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She never missed a band or vocal concert, play, ballgame, or church or school program for her kids or grandkids. When they weren’t busy attending these events, Marv and Elaine found time to attend basketball and football games at SDSU where they were avid Jackrabbit fans. Oftentimes, Jacks games included kids and grandkids. During summers, many special memories were made at their home at Lake Madison. Additional family memories were made at their home in Arizona.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Marvin of Crooks; children Kathryn Wieman of Carver, Minn., Kelli (John) Merry of Sioux Falls, Scott (Kristin) Wieman of Crooks, and Steve (Melanie) Wieman of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandchildren Andy (Mallery) Merry, Michael Merry, Mason Wieman, Preston Wieman and Alice Elaine Wieman; great-grandchildren Elaina Merry and Madison Merry; sister VerDonna Van Liere; and brother Bob Emery. She is also survived by James and Lila Langloss, Don Koopman and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Don Van Liere, and Donna Koopman.
