Florence Elva Moller passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at her home in Brookings, at the age of 91. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings. Interment was in the West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Crooks. Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic is handled the arrangements.
Florence was born on December 19, 1930, in Sioux Falls to Otto John and Tina (Johnson) Nielson, and grew up on the family farm near Crooks. She attended elementary school at a one-room schoolhouse near Crooks and went to high school in Lyons. After graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. she worked as a teacher, and married Christopher J. Moller, MD, on June 17, 1958.
She lived in many places during her life, Chicago, Ill., Dell Rapids, Papillion, Neb., Mitchell, Mankato, Minn., and at last retired to a home just south of Brookings. She and her husband designed and built three of their family homes, as well as a cabin at Lake Poinsett, where the family enjoyed many summers.
A great believer in education throughout one’s life, she attained a master’s degree in Russian History from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church, and a lifelong advocate for social justice as a member of Pax Christi and the Moody County Democrats.
She loved spending time with family, and holiday gatherings were of special importance. She played piano and had a great love of words. As well as being an avid book reader, Boggle was a favorite game, of which she was a champion. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and Wheel of Fortune.
She is survived by her son Eric (Nan) of Fullerton, Calif., and daughters Katherine Magee of Brookings, Jennifer Moller of Mankato, Minn., and Margaret Moller (David Conrad) of St. Cloud, Minn., ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Christopher, whom she missed dearly, her parents Otto and Tina, her brother George, and sister-in-law Ruth.
