Gordon (Gordy) Rang passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls at the age of 88.
Gordon Louis Rang, son of Louis and Jeanette (Hoekstra) Rang, was born July 26, 1933, in Parker. He grew up and attended school in Parker, then moved with his family to Colton. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18 and was discharged due to illness. He remained a loyal member of the Hartford Legion Post 118 all of his life. Gordy worked as an auto mechanic over 30 years starting with his own Enco Service station, then worked for various others including Weeg’s Standard Oil and Pro Tune-Up in Sioux Falls. He owned Rang’s Champlin Service in Hartford for many years. In his later years, he worked for Campbell’s Supply, Billion Motors and Menards in Sioux Falls.
On November 22, 1953, he married his soul mate, Reva Eichstedt, at Hartford. They lived in Sioux Falls for 24 years raising their family of six children, then moved to Hartford when Gordon opened his business, Rang’s Champlin Service. The couple moved back to Sioux Falls in 1986 where they lived and worked until retirement. Gordy’s last residence was Morgan Lane Village, Tea.
Gordy loved spending time with his family, whether it was playing cards and board games, or fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He collected pens for years from various vendors at his business and places he visited and always kept a pen in his shirt pocket. He loved his dogs, constant companions especially after the loss of his dear wife. Gordy loved the simple things in life. He liked being around people, socializing, telling jokes, watching baseball, grilling good food and resting in his favorite lawn chair. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sons Ordell Rang, DeSmet, Rick Rang (Peggy), Sioux Falls, Gary Rang, Canton, and daughters Sherry DeJong (Douglas), Sioux Falls, Sherylle Jandl (Richard), Canton, Sylvia Fowlds (Brian), Tea; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, a sister Audrey Jandl, Sioux Falls, and brother Larry Rang (Barbara), Brea, Calif., sisters-in-law Ardeth Rang and Shirley Rang, both of Sioux Falls.
