Wayne Walstead had always wanted to help the community and be part of a brotherhood which is why he joined the Hartford Area Fire and Rescue (HAFR) in the Fall of 2014, previously being on the department in Iowa.
In January 2013, Walstead became a Certified Firefighter I followed by a Certified Firefighter II in July 2014.
When Walstead is not fighting fires or volunteering his time with the HAFR, his career is a service technician at Vern Eide Marine.
Walstead and his wife, Shelly, have two children; Erin (23) and Nick (20). Shelly works for the South Dakota Department of Health while Erin lives and works in Sioux Falls and Nick is a student at Mitchell Technical College. When he has free time, Walstead can be found hunting and fishing.
When asked what he would like his department members to know, Walstead concluded, “I am proud to be on a department with a great team of people.”
