Leland Bachtell, son of Eugene and Helen (Stroman) Bachtell, was born April 13, 1950, in Sioux Falls. He graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1968. Lee then enlisted in the United States Navy until earning his Honorable Discharge in 1972. During the Vietnam War he served on the U.S.S. Constellation. Lee was united in marriage to Ladene Kenison on October 6, 1973. They were blessed with two sons, Kyle and Bret. Lee dedicated 38 years of service to UPS.
In his spare time, Lee enjoyed reading and salted caramel crave ice cream. He played coed softball and volleyball before following his sons playing on travelling ball teams, and in the last few years watching his grandchildren’s activities. Any time spent with family was cherished time. The grandkids had Grandpa Lee wrapped around their fingers. Lee loved the dogs he has had over the years including Samantha and Nikki who have passed and Cheyanne. He enjoyed travelling and was a member of the Sioux Falls Corvette Club for several years. Lee and Ladene spent time in Antigua the last 18 years and he considered many friends there as his adopted family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ladene of Sioux Falls; sons, Kyle (Kelly) Bachtell of Hartford and Bret (Sarah) Bachtell of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Taylor, Landen, Ava, Jakob and Easton; and sister, Lori (Mark) Huber of Elkton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Helen; and brother, Eugene “Doc” Bachtell.
Memorial services were held June 4, 2021, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation to Salvation Army, St. Francis House or Dougherty Hospice. Please wear your favorite beach attire in memory of Lee.
