Robert George DeGreef, age 84, of Renner, passed away on Saturday, March 12, at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 18, at Risen Savior Catholic Church, Brandon. Burial was in St. Michael Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
Bob was born on June 10, 1937, in Wilmont, to Phillip and Eva (Martin) DeGreef. After his father’s death, he helped his older brother farm until becoming a truck driver in his late teens. He moved to Sioux Falls and on August 1, 1960, he married LaVonne Sittig in Luverne, Minn. Bob and LaVonne lived in Sioux Falls until they moved to Renner in 1964. Bob worked as a diesel mechanic at several businesses in the Sioux Falls area and later started his own business, DeGreef Fire Equipment. Bob traveled the area selling and servicing fire extinguishers until selling his business and retiring in 2000. In retirement he kept busy by running a combine on a custom harvesting crew.
Bob was member of the Renner Fire Department and served as the department’s fire chief. He enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing, and getting together with family and friends on the 4th of July. He loved driving around Renner and visiting with people.
Survivors include his children: Jeff (Renee) DeGreef, Hopkins, Minn., Julie (Ron) Carlson, Renner, and June (Ron) Reed, Hartford; grandchildren: Janet (Travis) Stuntebeck, Kayla Hamilton, Tara (Tyler) Barrick, Ryan Carlson, Nick (Samantha) Carlson, April (Ryan) Labat, Katie (Beau) Lanners, and Jordan Carlson; step-grandchildren: Darren Borders and Kelly Reed; great grandchildren: Wyatt & Ayden Stuntebeck, Collin, Kya, & Kellen Hamilton, Mason Baum, Willow Barrick, Eleanor Wyatt, Binx Carlson, Jackson & Hayden Carlson, Lena & Nolan Labat, Easton, Emelia, & Oaklee Lanners. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVonne on April 30, 2007; six-year-old daughter, Janet on October 11, 1973; brother, Charles DeGreef, and sister Evelyn Van Hoorn.
