It’s that time of year again when the West Central Trojans are laying out the plans for their 2021 homecoming week.
Despite many limitations with COVID-19 last year, the Trojans were still able to keep their homecoming traditions last year while wearing masks and practicing social distancing, explained West Central High School Counselor Amy Lupkes. At this time, none of those are in place, Lupkes explained.
This year’s Student Council chose the theme Lights, Camera, Action, according to Lupkes and the homecoming festivities take place the week of Monday, September 20, through Friday, September 24 with coronation being held Monday at 7 pm.
Students and staff will get to participate in dress-up days throughout homecoming week, Lupkes explained. In addition, the high school will hold their annual “Class Wars” with lunch being provided by the National Guard ending the school day with their pep-rally. The afternoon and evening will provide the community with the homecoming parade and football game. According to Lupkes, following the football game, students will get to participate in the post HoCo event which consists of different activities such as a Mattball tournament, spike ball, bean bag boards, Nintendo Switch Just Dance and more.
The parade route will look a little different this year for those attending. “Homecoming parade starts at 2 pm from the middle school parking lot. They will head west on 2nd Street, turn north on Mundt, east on 3rd Street, then south on Vandemark to end it,” Lupkes said. She continued, “If there are any local businesses or groups that want to be involved in the parade, they should contact me by Wednesday, September 22, via email or phone.” To contact Lupkes, email amy.lupkes@k12.sd.us or call 605-528-6236, ext. 1105.
