It may have been a bit windy and the location a bit ‘out the usual’ place for the Turner County 4-H Recognition Event, but 4-H’ers, families, leaders and friends were able to join together to celebrate the successes of the 2019-2020 4-H Year. The annual event was held at the Turner County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Outgoing 4-H Ambassadors Kahli Gall and Madison Hofer began the program by leading the group with the flag pledges. They also helped to pass out several of the awards that were given out during the day.

Twelve 4-H members graduated from the 4-H program this year. This included Alisha McMartin.

Several awards were presented to 4-H leaders for their leadership to their clubs and the 4-H program. This included Jackie McMartin. Jackie has been a leader for 10 years. Thank you for your leadership to your clubs and at the county level.

The Steve Hanten Award is given out in honor and memory of Steve, a long-time 4-H leader in Turner County. Steve wanted all 4-H members to succeed in what they were doing and feel important. This year’s winner is Jackie McMartin, a 10-year 4-H leader of the Nordic 4-H club. She has provided many opportunities to not only her club members, but others as well by volunteering both on the county and state level. She has taught her club the importance of service to others. Congratulations Jackie on receiving this well-deserved award.

Clover Buds are the youth that will become our traditional 4-H members in the next year or two. Because we weren’t able to give these 4-H members their participation medals at the fair this year, we were able to give them out to those present at the awards program. Issac McMartin was present to receive his medal. Watch out for great things to come from this high-spirited group!

A top beginner, junior and senior is chosen by the judges in our county youth-in-action events. Receiving award in public presentations was Sarah Johnson, beginner. Our Special Foods recipient was also Sarah Johnson for the beginners.

Several 4-H’ers received rosettes or monetary awards from the State Fair. This included Alisha McMartin.

Receiving monetary awards for completing a record book are: Alisha McMartin and Issac McMartin from Hartford.
