West Central middle school teachers, grades 6-8, get to select students they see showing outstanding character throughout the month. Teachers watch for things such as high-quality work, putting in extra effort, working well with others and more.
Once the selections are made by the teachers, the students receive the names of the nominees and the nominees receive a letter that indicates the specific traits that the teachers saw in them throughout the month.
The winners for the 8th grade December Student of the Month were Madison Empey, daughter of Matt and Jessica Evans of Hartford and Dawson Junck, son of Aaron and Stephany Junck of Sioux Falls.
Others nominated were Madilyn Dinges, Maddysen Kunzweiler, Cade Foster and Nicholas Lorang.
At the end of each quarter, teachers recognize students that have displayed outstanding character. The second quarter Students of Character were Sway Waltner, daughter of Tim and Crystal Waltner of Hartford, Jasmine Zuraff, daughter of Josh and Jacqueline Zuraff of Hartford, Austin Michaels, son of Phil and Teri Michaels of Hartford and Lucas Sidel, son of Brian and Kristi Sidel of Hartford.
