SIOUX FALLS – A conditional use permit for a new residential airpark was deferred until May 25 when the joint Sioux Falls – Minnehaha County governing bodies met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 23, here at Carnegie Town Hall.

The airpark, which would be located approximately one mile west of Sioux Falls, near County Highway 148 (41st St.), would be the first of its kind developed in South Dakota, although there are more than 600 of these types of developments located around the United States.

Currently, a feasibility study is being done by the FAA, which is one of the conditions for the approval of the permit, and the two commissions did not want to proceed until they had that information.

As previously reported, the joint Sioux Falls Minnehaha County Planning Commissions met on February 22 to discuss the permit. At that time, the county planning commission voted 6-0 to approve it, and the city voted 5-2 to deny it.

With what was essentially a “no recommendation” from the planning commissions, the mater came to the main governing boards at this month’s joint meeting.

As there was no other business at the meeting, it was adjourned after 13 minutes.

The Minnehaha County Commission meets with the Sioux Falls City Council at 5 pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Carnegie Town Hall in Sioux Falls.
