The tradition carries on at the Tri-Valley Elementary school with the fourth graders being Book Buddies with the first graders, according to Tri-Valley fourth grade teacher Dan Jewett.
Jewett explained when he was teaching fifth grade, the kindergarten teachers asked their grade to start having Book Buddies and once he moved to fourth grade, he continued this tradition with the first graders.
“The purpose of the Book Buddies is to have the fourth-grade students read to the first-grade students,” Jewett explained. “We have been doing buddies for 15 years.”
The classes meet with their buddies two to three times a month and once they bare set up with their buddy, the remain buddies for the entire year.
“The students love Book Buddies,” Jewett said. He concluded, “If they had it their way, we would have Book Buddies every week.”
