SIOUX FALLS – The Minnehaha County Commission thanked outgoing Treasurer Pam Nelson and Auditor Bob Litz during the opening of their Tuesday, Dec. 30, meeting.

Nelson was also given a bouquet of flowers for her work since first being elected to the position in 2002.

Prior to her time as treasurer, Nelson served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1979 to 1986, and the State Senate from 1989 to 1996.

Litz, who is retiring before the end of his elected term had been Minnehaha County’s Auditor since first being elected in 2011.

While he was present at the meeting via Zoom videoconferencing, it was pointed out that this year, he served as auditor for the largest and most involved election in the history of the county.

In their final meeting for 2020, commissioners mainly re-apportioned money and accepted grants to finalize the year’s books.

They also approved a salary of $4,400 biweekly for newly appointed Acting County Auditor Bennet Kyte, who will be filling the remaining two years of Litz’s term.

Likewise, commissioners also approved other new employees to begin in 2021, along with their salaries.

Commissioners also set the date of Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. for the auction of the county’s old gravel pit near Ellis. That auction will take place at the Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls.

The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 5, to re-organization the commission for 2021 when commissioners selected their chairperson and named legal newspapers for the year.

2021 also starts their temporary schedule of only meeting three times a month through March.

Normally, the Minnehaha County Commission mets every Tuesday, but there are no meetings scheduled for Jan. 12, Feb. 9, and March 9 and 30.

All meetings will still start at 9 a.m. in the County Administration Building at 6th and Minnesota in Sioux Falls, they are open to the public, and public comments are encouraged.
