Matthew Horn was around EMS and firefighters while growing up during the time his dad was the director of Civil Defense and Emergency Management. This inspired his interest in the field and ultimately led to him joining the Hartford Area Fire and Rescue in February 2015.
“I joined the department because I found it interested and with my job schedule, I am in town a lot during the day and thought I could help the community,” Horn stated.
Horn is a Certified Fire Fighter and has also held his role in offices since joining in 2015. Horn was Secretary in 2017, 2nd Assistant Fire Chief from 2018-2020 and most recent the 2021 Chief.
In addition to his many roles within the Hartford Area Fire and Rescue, Horn works full time as the Chief Helicopter Pilot for Sanford Air Med.
Horn and his wife, Christina, have two daughters, Aubriana (9) and Stella (6) along with two dogs (Beagle and Dachshund) and a Green Terror fish.
When he’s not busy with work, Horn said he enjoys spending time with his family at their lake cabin during the summer and enjoys the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Horn concluded, “Being a member of the department has brought me great satisfaction and I feel honored to work with a great group of dedicated volunteers.”
