The months of social distancing have not stopped Humboldt’s Pat Bohl from staying as physically active as ever.  Bohl recently completed a personal challenge of bicycling 525 miles in July.

“At first, the plan was to ride four hundred miles,” Bohl said. “After averaging twenty miles a day, I discovered that it was possible to ride five hundred for the month.”  Bohl rides four different routes on the highways around Humboldt every day. He prefers mornings before it gets too hot, and chooses his route depending on wind direction. “I like to finish with a tailwind if at all possible,” he explained. “Some days it is not possible however, and I just have to shut up and take it. This is my therapy for remaining physically and mentally healthy.”

Physical activity is good for the body as well as for the mind.  It has also been a good way for Bohl to stay healthy in a summer of COVID-19 confinement.  He enjoys bicycling and tries to ride as much as possible as it allows him time for meditation and reflection and the chance to notice the nature around the area.

Bohl is a bicycling advocate and encourages people to try it.  “Bicycling is good exercise and can be done by all ages of people, even if you are seventy-two as I am. It may be done by yourself or with friends.”

Bohl biked 400 miles in June and plans for another 500 miles in August.
