Have you seen a green trolley serving food across the area? The Tasty Trolley is a food truck resembling a trolley and it serves a variety of foods.
The Axtell family, owners of the Blue 42 Sports Grill, purchased the food truck in the spring in an effort to expand the restaurant into the food truck format. Tony Axtell stated that the family wanted to make a one of a kind food truck experience. He mentioned that, when it comes to ice cream, the Tasty Trolley is one of the only places around the area to serve it.
He expressed, “There’s 50 plus flavors of soft serve. All of our soft serve is made with Stensland Family Farm ice cream.” Axtell went on to state that they combine some of the flavors to make new flavors, such as peanut butter banana. He also said, “I think when it’s all said and done, there’s like 108 combinations.”
While the Tasty Trolley might be known for its frozen treats, it also serves super nachos, walking tacos and other convenience foods.
Community members can find the truck at several locations and events. This past summer, the truck served food for the Hartford Softball Association. Along with the softball fields, the truck is sometimes parked in front of Blue 42, at block parties, fundraisers and other various locations. It has also served food at street events and lady’s nights out.
Axtell said that the Tasty Trolley often does not charge to attend events.
The Tasty Trolley team appreciates bringing joy to those it serves. Axtell said that he enjoys seeing his customers get excited about the truck serving ice cream. He said, “It’s a lot of fun to see the families get out and the kids get excited. And they have all the different flavors, I mean it’s a little bit of everybody’s ages. Plus, it’s not just your standard three or four flavors.”
Axtell believes that the pandemic has had an effect on the morale of the community and he wants to spread cheer through the Tasty Trolley. He also said, “We’re just kinda happy to see people getting out and smiling and having a good time.”
Since the truck was bought last spring, they have been keeping busy at various events. “We’ve been to some softball tournaments and stuff like that, where we have a hard time keeping up just because -everybody’s – nobody turns down ice cream really.”
Since the Tasty Trolley can be parked anywhere, Axtell believes the mobility of the truck contributes to the success of the food service.
The Tasty Trolley not only serves an assortment of frozen treats, but it also serves smiles to community members.
