Susan Kay Hanson was born September 28, 1955, in Sioux Falls to Herbert and Evelyn (Hartmann) Ranschau. She graduated from West Central High School in 1973 and then went on to serve in the South Dakota Air National Guard from 1974 until 1980. In 1975 she married Donald Ordal and to this marriage five children were born. She then married Randy Hanson in 1989. Together they made their home in the Black Hills where she worked at Black Hills Special Services in Sturgis for 32 years.
Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and teaching country western dancing. In their later years they built a campground called Suzie’s Campground where she embraced the phrase “Come as Strangers, Leave as Friends”, where many of her campers became good friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Randy Hanson of Sturgis; her five children, Michael Ordal, Tabitha (Pat) Stofferahn, Peggy (Adam) Lauck, Adam (Amber) Ordal and Patrick Ordal; mother, Evelyn Carlson; brothers, Dennis and Dean Ranschau and sister, Bonnie Christensen. Her grandchildren, Breanna and Emillee Stofferahn, Addisyn and Bradyn Lauck and Shelby and Grayson Ordal; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Ranschau, stepfather, Wayne Carlson and her brother Gary Ranschau.
