The PTA will be hosting a Scavenger Skate Party fundraiser at Skate City on January 27 from 6-8 pm. According to PTA member Amy Johnson, anyone attending the event pays Skate City directly. “Just let them know that you are there for the West Central PTA event,” Johnson explained. “Skate City sends the PTA a portion of the proceeds after the event is over.”
Johnson explained that skate night is a fundraiser for the PTA to help raise general funds for various projects such as school supplies, teacher support & appreciation, summer tuition assistance and more.
The PTA has been hosting this fundraiser for over the last three years, generally twice a year, with the skate night being offered three times this year.
The admission to the Scavenger Skate Party is $6, skate rentals are $3 and skate mates are available to be rented for beginner skaters for $4. While at the skate night, you can participate in the Scavenger Hunts throughout Skate City during the skate party to find items and get the correct answers to win prizes. In addition, there are also a meal deal available which includes a hot dog, chips and drink for $4.
Johnson said, “Anyone is welcome to attend! Skate City is a fun way to raise money for our schools and spend time with friends. We hope to see you there!”
Skate City is located at 2901 W 3rd Street in Sioux Falls.
The PTA also has another fundraiser that is fairly new to the organization which started this past year, according to Johnson, which is through AmazonSmile.
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices and convenient shopping features as on Amazon.com, according to the PTA. The difference is that AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of eligible purchases to their customer’s designated charitable organization at no cost to the customer, Johnson explained. She also explained that to her understanding, if there is an item that is not eligible, the shopper will be notified.
Johnson explained this is an ongoing fundraiser, year-round. “As long as the shopper has West Central PTA listed as their organization of choice, we will receive the donations,” Johnson said, with the funds being transferred directly to the PTA’s bank account quarterly.
The PTA currently use these funds to help put on community events, such as Mother-Son event or Father-Daughter dance, teacher support & appreciation, such as conference meals and classroom supplies, items/school supplies that the schools may need and summer tuition assistance.
Johnson said, “We also are currently working on obtaining and putting up Gaga ball pits at the elementary schools. If that goes as planned, we may look at doing something similar at the middle school as well.” She continued, “We really want to have funds to help the teachers and schools in any way we can. If they make a request, we want to be sure that we can be there to help fulfill their needs!”
“The PTA is always looking for active members and volunteers,” Johnson said. She concluded, “Meetings are held the third Monday of every month, 7 pm, Hartford Pizza Ranch. Anyone can be a member!”
