Tri-Valley Elementary students have adapted quickly to the various modifications this school year. One such change for the kindergarten and fifth grade is with its popular Book Buddies program.

Book Buddies are groups of fifth grade and kindergarten students who team up to read books together. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the usual one-on-one time has been modified a bit. The students now connect virtually to interact together and to share the gift of reading.

“Each fifth grader created their own Zoom login and then shares that information with their book buddy,” explained Junior Kindergarten teacher, Nicole Questad. “We then log into Zoom and the fifth-grade book buddy reads stories over their computer to their buddy.”

Even with the extra steps it takes to set up the buddy time, the students are enjoying learning from each other. “We will be doing it twice a month so that our Kindergarteners are still able to participate in this fun activity while remaining healthy and safe,” added Questad.

Book Buddies not only fosters a love of reading, but it also encourages long lasting friendships among the students throughout elementary school.
