The Tri-Valley first graders kept with the giving theme during the Christmas season while doing a service project for the Children’s Inn in Sioux Falls.
According to first grade teacher Samantha Cliff, the students as an entire first grade class voted on three different options to be able to donate to for their project, ultimately the most votes received was for Children’s Inn.
The Children’s Inn website provided a list of items that were in most need, explained Cliff. From there, the first grade teachers sent home a list with each student as to the different donations that could be given to the Children’s Inn, things such as laundry detergent, baby food, paper towels, etc. Once the donations were received, the teachers arranged and delivered the items to the Children’s Inn.
Cliff said, “A lot of students were excited to be able to donate different things! We had been talking about ways to help our community in our reading unit and the students were excited to be able to participate in that!” She concluded, “I loved seeing all the items the students brought in. It was very touching to see how excited they were to help out.”
