The Tri-Valley School District hosted their annual Veteran’s Day Program on Thursday, November 11, which kicked off with a social in the commons at 8:30 am. From there, the students and their guests moved to the high school gym for the Veteran’s Day Program.
Student Council Advisor Amber Fluth explained the program at Tri-Valley is a collaboration of their entire school district. The high school foods class made homemade cookies to eat during the social along with the elementary students creating cards that were sent to Veterans who were unable to join the program.
The Tri-Valley student body lead the event with Student Council President Hannah West and Vice President Isaac McFarland as the emcees, according to Fluth. Additionally, the elementary students decorated a tree, spoke about the differences between the branches and wrote an acrostic poem to show their appreciation. Fluth further explained the middle school and high school bands performed along with the high school choir. Students from 6th grade gave a presentation to demonstrate flag folding and the high school creative writing students read their original writing piece.
Fluth explained the Tri-Valley School recognized 130 veterans at their program which was an increase of more than 20 at their last face to face program that took place in 2019.
“My favorite part of the program is when the high school band plays the Marches of the Armed Forces and members of each branch raise during their song,” Fluth said. She concluded, “Our program is unique because it is put on by our students for our veterans.” (Photos/Maggie Skovlund, Hillary Hastings and Lauren Grinde)
