Alvin Lee Swenson of Cookeville, TN passed away peacefully at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center on March 15, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born on April 25, 1948, to the late Willie and Venora Swenson in Crooks, SD. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carmelita (Mathison) Swenson; an infant daughter, Michelle; a sister, Joyce Swenson; and brother-in-law, Richard Mathison.
He is survived by three children: Alvin Swenson Jr. and his wife, Marta (Brookings, SD); Chad Swenson and his wife, Sandy (Cookeville, TN); and Eric Swenson and his wife, Misty (Smyrna, TN). In addition to his three children, Alvin is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Cynthia McFarland (Hartford, SD), and Pamela Janssen (Crooks, SD), numerous grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin also leaves behind his dog and best pal, Charlie.
Among Alvin’s many talents, skills, and occupations, he enjoyed farming and horses, was a retired heating and air conditioning technician, a heavy equipment operator, as well as being employed as a rock crusher at the Dell Rapids Quarry.
Alvin’s interest and hobbies included hunting, camping, and traveling across the U.S. He also enjoyed handling his team of draft horses, threshing bees, attending rodeos, and was an avid history buff of the early frontier life.
Alvin and his late wife, Carmelita, were active members of Bear Creek Baptist Church in Cookeviile where they were regular attendees and participants in many activities.
