Nancy Boerboom has been an education assistant at the West Central School District for 17 years and has been recognized as this year’s Classified Employee of the Year.
After a career at Norwest/Wells Fargo, Nancy was a stay-at-home mom of two, Jacob and Sam. Nancy volunteered her time in her son’s classrooms while they were in the elementary school and was soon approached by the Special Services Director about working in the Special Education Department with a female senior student. After that discussion, Nancy decided to apply and started working for the school district at the start of the 2004-05 school year.
During the duration of the time with the school district, Nancy was at the high school level and would go to different classes throughout the school day and assist students.
Now, after 17 years with the school, Nancy will be retiring. She said her favorite part of her day was getting to work with the students and teachers and what she will miss most is the day-to-day classes with the students and staff.
“One of my favorite memories was the end of my first year of working at the high school. I worked with one senior student that year. She would eat lunch each day with other senior girls and those girls wanted to share a last lunch celebration in honor of her and her graduation. The celebration lunch was a total surprise and she loved it!”, Nancy explained.
Nancy is originally from Minnesota and has been married to her husband, Paul, for 36 years. Their son, Jacob and his wife live in Minnesota and are both in healthcare. Their son, Sam lives in NC and is a middle school instrumental music teacher. They also have two English Springer Spaniels, Rudy and Archie.
During her free time, Nancy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, walking, boating, hiking, reading, playing cards and participating in church activities. She’s looking forward to spending time traveling, playing pickle ball, walking, hiking and volunteering during her retirement.
When asked what Classified Employee of the Year award means to her, Nancy said, “Being awarded the Classified Employee of the Year means a lot to me. Each day I always tried my best and had the best interest of the students.”
Nancy concluded, “All employees of the West Central School District are an awesome group of people who care so much about the students!”
