The Central Valley Struttin’ Gobblers (CVSG) will hold its annual banquet on Saturday, September 25, at 120 Main Events in Hartford.
The CVSG is one of the 24 South Dakota chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Over the years, the group has helped communities and organizations in many ways. They funded habitat improvement by planting over 100 trees locally, sponsored Wheelin’ Sportsmen events and funded 4H and Boy Scout shooting programs like hunter safety. CVSG has also mentored at “Women in the Outdoors,” provided holiday turkeys to families in need through the “Turkey Hunters Care” program, and sponsored the “Wounded Heroes Turkey Hunt.”
In addition, the local chapter sponsors the Humboldt Sharpshooters and has donated to the SD Wildlife Federation to send youth to Youth Conservation Camp in Custer State Park. They held a food drive for the Humboldt Food Haven, and installed a disposal flag box at Veteran’s Park.
The CVSG Banquet has been held annually for a number of years. “Due to the pandemic, the Central Valley Struttin’ Gobblers were one of the few chapters in the state of South Dakota that had a banquet in 2020,” commented CVSG’s Scott Nelson. “It proved to be very successful and we look forward to continuing our conservation efforts to help wildlife and those who pursue wild game.”
The evening begins at 5:30 pm with a social hour and dinner following which is served at 7:00. Items up for auction include a Kudu Adventure Safari, Texas Hog Hunt, Glacial Lakes fishing trip, handmade star quilt, art work, sculptures, guns, knives and many more unique items. “Participants at the September 25 banquet can expect more ‘local’ attractions this year,” added Nelson. “These auction items will appeal to persons of all ages and personal interests.” Raffles are also being held for several guns.
