James “Jim” M. Andresen “Andy”, 73, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024, after a brief battle with glioblastoma.
Jim was born on May 13, 1951, in Sioux Falls, to Pearl (Spielmann) and LeRoy “Andy” Andresen. After graduating high school in Hartford, Jim served in the Army National Guard 147th Artillery unit. Jim worked at John Morrell’s and Company, Food Services of America, and retired from Avera Behavioral Health after over 20 years of employment in the maintenance department.
Jim, a man of unwavering dedication, married the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Siemonsma, on November 19, 2010. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in hunting and fishing. His green thumb was renowned, and he generously shared the fruits of his labor with friends, family, and the St. Francis House. His commitment to his property was unparalleled, spending countless hours on his riding lawnmower to ensure it was always in pristine condition. Jim’s life was guided by the motto, “Love God, love your family, and never cuss the rain.” These were not just words to him but a way of life that he cherished and exemplified.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Patty; daughter, Rachele (Wade) Siemonsma-Ramsey of Meridian, Idaho; brothers, Richard “Rich” Andresen (Diane) of Hartford, Marlin (Amy) Andresen of Madison; grandsons, Samuel Ramsey of Overland Park KS, and Taylor Ramsey of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters-in-law, Sheryl Siemonsma of Humboldt, Lisa (Les) Ginther of Shakopee, MN, and Kay (Bryan) Silvernail of Whitewood; brother-in-law, Mike (Glenda) Siemonsma of Sioux Falls; nephew, Ryan Andresen (Angie Hansen) of Hartford, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
