Mrs. Linda Marie (Niewald) Michael, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many, comfortably departed this life on June 2, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. She will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family’s happiness, the love she showed to everyone who knew her and her endless supply of homemade treats.
Born in Sioux Falls, she was the daughter of the late Harold Niewald and Sara Matilda (Carlson) Niewald. She attended West Central High School in Hartford and the National College of Business in Rapid City. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Paul Martin Michael, of Rapid City on August 3, 1969 in Hartford.
She is survived by her husband and two sons, Scott and Brian, who all live in Oklahoma City, OK as well as seven grandchildren, Tegan, Kennadi, Kloee, Karsyn, Sophia and Olivia. She is also survived by 4 brothers, Dave, Larry and Vernon Niewald who live in the Sioux Falls area as well as Don Niewald from Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Sara Carlson) Niewald, as well as her sister Cherry (Niewald) Page and her brother Tim Niewald, both from the Sioux Falls area.
Her professional life closely mirrored her personal life, always prioritizing the needs of others as a secretary and administrative assistant for Northwest Pipe of Rapid City; Southwestern Bell Telephone in San Francisco, CA; Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, OR; Topeka Public Schools in Topeka, KS; Zacher & Cahoy CPA in Rapid City and Rapid City Regional Hospital. She also dedicated her life to volunteering for various healthcare and educational organizations.
The family welcomes all to attend a Celebration of Life for Linda on July 6th, 2024 at the Hartford United Methodist Church at 102 E 2nd St, Hartford, SD 57033 beginning at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be made to Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE) c/o Donna Talley P.O. Box 729 Custer, SD, 57730. The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Mercy Hospital for their compassion and care for Linda over the years.
