Lois W. Stofferahn, 95, of Humboldt passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Family greeted friends at noon on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Humboldt. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. at the church with burial in the churchyard cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Lois Winifred Grocott, daughter of Thomas and Lillian (Paulson) Grocott, was born July 10, 1927 in Humboldt. She grew up and received her education there. She then worked for the Humboldt Creamery for a period of time.
On September 6, 1949 she was united in marriage to Howard August Stofferahn in Humboldt. The couple then made their home on a farm southeast of Buffalo Trading Post where they began farming and started their family. In 1961 they moved the family to a farm near Humboldt, where in addition to being a farm wife, homemaker and mother, she worked as a financial secretary for the West Central School system. Lois also was the bookkeeper for their Seed Business. Howard preceded her in death on May 4, 2008.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Tom (Nancy), Humboldt, Ron (Nancy), Humboldt, Kris (Bruce) Jorgensen, Ankeny, IA and Todd (Suzie), Creston, IA; eleven grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; brother, Winston “Mick” Grocott, FL and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lois was a lifelong active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Lois will fondly be remembered by her family and friends as an excellent cook and baker.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jessica; siblings, Donald, Glen, Dennis and Eugene Grocott, Linda Paulson, Betty Eisenberg, Glad Hoven and Elsie O’Hara.
