Marcella Edberg, Hartford, died March 11. 2022, under hospice care at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls. She was 98.
Marcella Florence Edberg was born March 18, 1923, to Franklin and Ethel (Holbrook) Manges, in rural Hartford. She attended country schools, and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941.
She was united in marriage with Ernest Edberg on April 8, 1945 in Parker. The couple lived in Sioux Falls for a short period of time then moved into Hartford where Marcella was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed being active in PTA while the children were young.
After a few years, Marcella went to work for Raven Industries sewing air balloons. She then spent a 40-plus year career at the Ramkota Inn in housekeeping. She retired in 2004, to care for her husband. Ernie passed away in 2009.
Marcella was a faithful member of Hartford United Methodist Church where she had served in many groups including the Nocturn Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Hartford Senior Center. In her free time, Marcella enjoyed coloring, bingo, word search games and puzzles, and feeding and caring for her backyard squirrel buddies.
Dependable, loyal, loving and strong, Marcella will be forever cherished by her family and friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Joyce (Denny) Muchow, Harriet (Paul) Page, Donna (Pete) Valenti; sons, Erik (Deanna “Buffy”) Edberg, Duane (Marleen) Edberg, Glenn (Judy) Edberg, Neil (JoAnne) Edberg, John (Jackie) Edberg, and Ricky (Tracy) Edberg; 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy John Edberg; great-grandson, Treyton Martz; three brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral Services were held at 11 am Thursday, March 17, at Hartford United Methodist Church, Hartford. The family was present to greet friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday evening at the Miller Hartford Chapel, 600 S. Western Avenue, Hartford.
