Marvin Leon Johnson was born with his twin sister, Marlys, July 2, 1941, on their family farm near Flandreau to Homer and Dollie (Hurley) Johnson. Marvin was raised on the farm and attended country schools and Flandreau Public School when the family moved into town.  Growing up, Marvin enjoyed fishing, swimming and riding his bicycle all around the countryside.

Marvin met the love of his life, Mary E. Haney, on a blind date in Pipestone, Minn. On November 9, 1962, they were united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with one son, Scott, and two daughters, Dawn and Shannon. Marvin spent over 45 years working at Du-Al/Woods Manufacturing in Sioux Falls retiring in 2006. Throughout his career in sheet metal fabrication, he made many lifelong friends.

Marvin enjoyed spending his summers camping at Lewis and Clark Lake near Yankton, hunting, fishing, playing cards with his brothers, attending country western concerts and watching old westerns and movies. Above all he cherished the time spent with his family, especially all the family camping trips, sharing a beer and shooting the breeze with friends and fishing with his grandchildren. Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of over 58 years, Mary E. Johnson, Sioux Falls; son, Scott Johnson and his wife, Denise Lounsbery, Sioux Falls; daughter, Dawn Vigil and her wife, Janni, Rio Rancho, N.M. and daughter Shannon Johnson and her partner, Luis Avila, Elk Point; six grandchildren, Hayley Johnson, Alex Thorson and his wife, Erinn, Caitlyn Jenkins and her husband, Michael, Delaney Thorson, Jacen Thorson and Charlie Avila; two sisters, Ruth JoAnn Hotchkin, Colton and Marvin’s twin sister, Marlys Olson, Trent; sister-in-law, Joanne Johnson, Brookings; brother-in-law, Ron Haney, Sioux Falls and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
