The Tri-Valley Mustangs in kindergarten and third grade have been working on service projects during the month of December and one of these included taking handmade ornaments and Christmas cards to the residents of the Colton Assisted Living Center.
Prior to Christmas break, the students went to the Colton Assisted Living Center and hand delivered the ornaments and cards personally to spread some holiday cheer. In addition to the ornaments and cards, the kindergarteners shared some extra bliss to the residents by singing some holiday carols.
Kindergarten teacher Ashley Zenk explained during their month of service projects, the Junior kindergarteners and kindergarteners also raised funds to adopt residents for Christmas with the students getting to help pick out gifts online.
Zenk also explained, “The students were so excited to sing their concert songs to the residents. They also enjoyed wishing the residents a Merry Christmas when they delivered their hand made ornaments.”
Third grade teacher Marcia Berkness explained that each resident received three to five Christmas cards from the third graders. “The residents really seemed to enjoy seeing the kids and enjoyed the cards,” Berkness said. She concluded, “Students also enjoyed making the cards and giving them away!”
When asked about what the residents thought of this day, Zenk said, “Their smiles and thank yous said it all!”
“We were so thankful that our students could visit the assisted living center,” Zenk said. She concluded, “It was fun to spread holiday cheer. The service project was a great way for kids to give to others and think about them as they selected gifts for them.”
