Rosie Lea Burgers, age 79 of Carthage, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at her home in Carthage, with family by her side.
Funeral services took place at 11 am on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Colton with Chaplain Ted Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Carthage.
There will be a time of visitation from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am at the funeral home Saturday morning.
Rosie was born on September 7, 1942 to Martin and Myrtle (Vermillion) Salomonson in the old railroad section house on the corner of Second Street and Washington Avenue in Colton. Hazel Boomer (Ma Boomer), wife of Ed Boomer, was the mid-wife. Rosie grew up and spent most of her life in the Colton area. She was the proud mother of five children. After her children were grown, Rosie worked for a variety of employers including Sullivan Inc., Sioux Valley Hospital, and various other jobs.
Rosie left the Colton area and moved in with her daughter, Ruth. They lived in Mobridge for many years. She enjoyed antiquing, viewing the countryside, and sharing the rodeo when family visited. They recently moved to Carthage, where she spent her last days being visited by family and friends.
Rosie is survived by her four daughters, Rose (Robert) Willard, Renner, Robin (Ken) Kleba, Hartford, Ruth Burgers, Carthage, Roxane (Jay) Aeilts, Tea, and one son Roger Burgers, Colton; sister, Lois Van Heerde, Colton; and sister-in-law, Marlene (Jim) Knox, Salem. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also blessed to share the lives of her four great-grandsons in Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and their husbands, Shirley (Bud) Amundson and Sadie (Ray) Price; in-laws, Shirley and Sid Post; brother-in-law, Bennett Van Heerde; and Hank and Tena Burgers, who provided love and guidance during her adult life.
